Hello, I'm Tamasine Price, the silversmith and jewellery maker behind Dorset Seaside Silver. I design and handcraft unique sterling silver and fine silver jewellery from my studio in Weymouth, Dorset, drawing inspiration from the coast, nature, and the little treasures I discover around me. My fascination with shape, texture, and natural forms greatly influences my work. With a background in sculpture, my love for the Dorset coastline brings elements like shells, pebbles, fossils, waves, and seaside textures into each handcrafted jewellery piece. For me, jewellery isn't just something pretty to wear; I strive for each piece to tell a story, evoke a sense of place, and showcase a bit of personality.

Creativity has always been a significant part of my life. I studied Sculpture at university, which instilled in me a love for working with three-dimensional form, texture, and different materials. I cherished the process of taking an idea and transforming it into something tangible. After university, I spent several years as a sculptor for an animation company. This role offered a wonderful opportunity to apply my sculpting skills in a unique way, creating characters and forms where shape, texture, and intricate details were essential. That experience taught me patience, precision, and the importance of closely observing the smallest details — skills that have remained with me throughout my journey in jewellery making. I later took a different route and became a primary school teacher, dedicating 27 years to education. Creativity, particularly through art, design, and technology, always played an important role in my teaching, and I never lost the desire to create. My journey into handcrafted jewellery began in 2010 when I enrolled in a one-day silversmithing workshop in Brighton. I was instantly captivated. Working with silver, using traditional tools, and seeing a piece evolve from a sheet or wire into something wearable was an experience I absolutely loved. That initial workshop inspired me to pursue my Level 3 BTEC in Silversmithing in 2012, and my learning has continued ever since. Alongside traditional silversmithing, I developed a fascination for silver clay, particularly for its ability to capture the textures and forms found in nature. I successfully completed my Level 1 and Level 2 Silver Clay Diplomas, followed by my Higher Diploma and Silver Clay Certification. My education in jewellery has progressed further with the Jewellers Academy, where I obtained my Silver Diploma and Fine Diploma, and I am currently working towards my Advanced Silver Diploma. I appreciate that there is always something new to learn. Even after all these years, I continue to refine my skills, experiment with various techniques, and discover new ways to express the shapes, textures, and treasures of the Dorset coast in silver. Dorset Seaside Silver represents the culmination of my creative journey — intertwining my background in sculpture, my experience in animation, my teaching career, my love of learning, and, most importantly, my passion for crafting beautiful handcrafted jewellery by hand. This journey has been profoundly guided by Tamasine Price, whose influence has enriched my craft.

For me, jewellery should be more than just something pretty to wear; it should have character, a story, and a sense of connection. At Dorset Seaside Silver, every piece of handcrafted jewellery is designed and made by me, Tamasine Price. I cherish the little marks, textures, and variations that come from making each piece by hand. These aren't imperfections to be hidden; rather, they are part of what makes each item unique. The Dorset coast serves as a constant source of inspiration for me. I am captivated by the shapes and textures of shells, fossils, pebbles, waves, and all the little treasures found while exploring the beach. My goal isn't to simply replicate nature; I enjoy transforming those shapes into something unexpected and wearable. I have never been particularly interested in following jewellery trends. Instead, I prefer to create distinctive pieces that catch your eye, make you smile, or remind you of a special moment. Whether it's a tiny shell, an ammonite, or a beautifully textured silver piece, I want my jewellery to feel personal to each wearer. I primarily work with recycled silver and make it a point to source my materials responsibly whenever possible. Silver is a precious resource, and I believe in considering where it comes from and how it is used. Ultimately, I want Dorset Seaside Silver to represent beautiful creations made with care—jewellery that has a connection to the coast, a meaningful story, and a bit of the maker in every piece.
